Training Session Tonight (Mon 14th March) CANCELLED

I've had a call from Matt Watts, coach today to let me know that he's unable to take the mixed fitness & touch training session tonight and that he's been unable to find any others to run a session. He's asked me to let you all know.

So if you're travelling far to attend tonight, please be advised it's not likely to happen and you may prefer not to come down.

However, if you're local and want to organise an informal touch rugby session among yourselves, come along for the usual time.  You might like to post a comment below if you want the session to happen.

At the moment, I understand the clubhouse will be open as normal.

The club could do with more coaching help, so if you're interested in going on a rota or helping out with one of our playing sub-committees who are responsible for training, please get in touch with Boris (clubcaptain@millwallrugby.com, copying volunteer@millwallrugby.com) in the first instance.

Sorry for any inconvenience and late notice.

Changes to Monday & Wednesday Night Training

Wednesday nights are proving hugely popular, with numbers averaging at around 35-40. However this has meant it has been quite challenging designing coaching to suit the wide range of players attending, to keep it interesting and beneficial for everyone.

So with effect from tonight we are making some small changes to Monday & Wednesday nights. The changes mainly concern our Rugby Basics and Return to Rugby programmes.

Mondays: Adult Non-Contact Touch Rugby & Fitness
7.30pm until 9pm

(But please do your best to arrive from 7pm to help us get the lights out - don't leave it to your team mates)

  • This will be Non-Contact Touch Rugby Games for Fitness (for Men & Women of all abilities).
  • On Monday nights we will now run our Rugby Basics programme and complete beginners (men and women) are welcome to start on a Monday night.
  • All new players welcome.

Wednesdays: Adult Contact Rugby Training
7.30pm until 9pm

(But please do your best to arrive from 7pm to help us get the lights out - don't leave it to your team mates)

  • Contact Rugby Training
  • This will be run as separate sessions for Men & Women.
  • On Wednesday nights the men's section will continue to run our Return to Rugby Programme aimed at people who've played a little before and want to get back into the game. But if you're a complete beginner (and male) we recommend you start by coming just on Monday nights.
  • Women's Wednesday sessions are unchanged and will continue to welcome complete beginners.

Still want a game of contact rugby or touch rugby tomorrow?

If you've not been selected to play this weekend, and would like to play touch rugby instead, the club is entering a team that is a bit short on players in a touch rugby tournament, please contact touch@millwallrugby.com. Meet time is 0930 at Millwall or 1030 at East London RFC.

However if you'd like a game of contact rugby, the club's priority is to make sure we have enough player and subs for our fixtures on Saturday - contact firstteammanager@millwallrugby.com or secondteammanager@millwallrugby.com or venusmanager@millwallrugby.com

Want to help your club? - current vacancies on the club committee

As you may or may not be aware your club is run entirely by volunteers, and we currently have a couple of vacant positions on the club committee.

  • 1st Team manager (1 expression of interest so far)
  • 2nd Team manager (1 expression of interest so far)
  • Venus manager
  • Development officer
If you are interested in helping to run your club in our 20th anniversary year and any of the above roles appeal, please send an email to Karen Anderson (club secretary) on secretary@millwallrugby.com before 31st December 2014 indicating which role you would like to volunteer for.

If you would like further information with regards to these roles, please feel free to speak to the outgoing position holder or any committee member to get a feel for what the role entails or referring to the role descriptions on the club website committee page
_____________________________________________________________________

For those roles which receive just one expression of interest by 31/12/14, this person will be notified and 'co-opted' formally at the next committee meeting on 13th Jan 2015 (although they will be in role asap).

For those roles which receive more than one expression of interest by 31/12/14, these will be discussed at the next committee meeting and the successful applicant will be showered in a flavour of Hooch of their choice* (*this may or may not happen).
_____________________________________________________________________

From personal experience, I can say that a committee role is both rewarding and challenging and it's a great feeling to be so deeply involved in a club and see it grow from strength to strength.

For those who think you have to be at the club a while before going into a committee role - I don't think this necessarily matters - I joined in Nov 2011 and by April 2012 I had taken a committee role (and have been in one ever since)

Granted, some would say me bringing Hooch into the club is tantamount to bringing the club into disrepute, I will leave my peers to decide on that......

Eurovision Song Contest - Saturday 26th May

Eurovision Song Contest Fancy Dress Party - yep, I know it's not as good as when Sir Terry used to do it.....but let's face it, nobody cares & you'll have been at the clubhouse since the Premiership Final anyway & won't know your Azerbaijan from your River Elbe by then.

So why not take the opportunity to upset your European friends with your cultural insensitivity by dressing up as a stereotypical European for the evening?

There will be prizes for the best dressed, (although you may not want to win them), and forfeits for those who've merely strung some Equinox garlic around their necks on the way in the door.

Party Games & drinks promotions to ensure you go home happy even if your chosen country reaps naught bur the dreaded Null Points
