Summer O2 Touch League Starts This Wednesday July 1st

Following our super Spring league victory and a semi-final at the big O2 Touch Tournament in Bath, we're back in action from this Wednesday for the start of the Summer League in Southwark Park

Southwark Park
Wednesday July 1st
6.15pm

(first game 6.30pm)

We'll have two teams for Summer so there will be something for everyone, either fast and furious in Division 1 or more steady in Division 2 where in particular, you don't need any experience of touch leagues, just be ready to go out there and enjoy it! Teams are mixed, 6 on the pitch at anyone time with a minimum of 2 women.

Afterwards, we will have some well earned refreshment in a pub with a beer garden, perfect for the promised summer's evening

Directions

Southwark Park is easily accessible from either Surrey Quays Overground or Canada Water Tube.

Thirst Friday the 3rd of July

After the raucous carousing of the end of season dinner has died down and with pre-season training weighing on the mind it is worth remembering that the first Saturday game is still a few months away. And as such we can continue with the most excellent situation that places our monthly visit to the drinking establishments and alehouses of old London town and her surrounding boroughs on Fridays.

As many, (or at least one of us), will not remember all of the details of the Annual Dinner, and to deliver a soupçon of the flavours thereof to those who did not manage to purchase a ticket, we have decided to revisit Henry's on west India quay this Friday the 3rd of July.

The revelry should kick off at 17:30, earlier for a few who want to escape from the office and will definitely not involve me having a cigar.

Address below:

QBE International Tickets - Away Fixture

The RFU have come back on the away QBE International. Below are the details of the game and how to apply for tickets:

1. England v France, Saturday the 22nd Aug 2015 in Paris (Priced at £51)

It is a very short turnaround to apply for tickets so please email the Club by 5pm 1st July on
internationaltickets@millwallrugby.com if you want tickets. (We have been allocated 20 tickets in total so applications may be limited)

In addition to the cost of the ticket the Club will be charging an admin fee of £5 per tickets, payable at the time of purchase.

Remember these tickets cannot be bought by the general public and fetch a premium of £100+ if we sold them directly to approved hospitality providers, so make sure you take advantage of this great opportunity and privilege of being a member of the Club.

To get access to these tickets, you first need to make sure your club membership is paid and up to date. We are only allowed to let you purchase tickets if you have been a member for at least 2 weeks prior to purchase.

Lastly remember the tickets are for personal use, if you are caught selling them on to a ticket tout or on the internet the Club will get in trouble and may well have our ticket allocation reduced or removed.

Good Luck and hope to see you all soon..

Regards,

Shaf

Clubhouse Openings, Help Requests, Pre-Season Training & Touch Rugby (w/c 29/6)

Urgent Help Needed:
We have a few events coming up where we need help and are a prime opportunity to promote/recruit for the club so anyone who helps will be greatly appreciated.

Tues 30th June - Schools Rugby World Cup
This is a massive opportunity for the club, with over 300 pupils will be playing rugby on Millwall Park. Scott is after volunteers to help with organisation and refereeing on the day. Timings will probably be similar to the above event, and many companies offer 'community days' for their employees to take for events like this. So if you can get the time off work and can help, please let Scott know HERE

Sun 5th July - Defence of Carrot Cup - Tug of War Trophy.
With the addition of recent silverware to the cabinet from the Llamas, Ladies and the Touch team we need to retain the Carrot cup we won last year. So we need as many people as possible at Ropemakers Fields in Limehouse next Sunday to defend our honour.

Please confirm your attendance at the event via facebook event HERE
Also let Gareth know if you want to be part of the team(s) we are entering HERE

All 'tuggers' will get a t-shirt

Touch Rugby times:
Our sessions on Millwall Park will take place on the following Days and Times:

  • Every Sunday 13:00 – 15:00
  • Every Monday 19:00 – 21:00
  • Every Thursday 19:00 – 21:00
In addition to this, we will be playing at Surrey Quays on Wednesday evenings. The kick-offs will vary between 18:30 and 20:00

Advance notice of mens pre-season training:
Pre-season training is scheduled to start on Wednesday 8th July at 7pm. After the 8th it will be every Monday and Wednesday until the season starts. Andy has very kindly said that he will help out, and for those of you who were around for pre-season last year I am sure you will be looking forward to breaking out the rope, tyres etc again...

Club Openings/Meetings:
Monday - Open from 7pm
Fisher (& maybe Ed + mini Ed) will be looking after you for this Monday. We are opening on Mondays during the summer season to tie in with Touch sessions (starting at 7pm). Come down to touch and have a few drinks afterwards.

Thursday - Open from 7pm

Flex will be looking after you for this Thursday. We are opening on Thursdays during the summer season to tie in with Touch sessions (starting at 7pm). Come down to touch and have a few drinks afterwards.

Saturday - Open from 6pm
The club is open to commiserate America deciding to leave our rule and spell/pronounce words incorrectly such as labour and colour - so make sure you come down early (Pith helmets optional). One of our members, Dave Roberts, will also be having a leaving party at the 5 bells afterwards as he is moving back to Australia soon.

Sunday - Open from 3pm - 5pm
Flex will be opening the clubhouse after the Sunday Touch sessions for a few hours so why come down to touch and have a few drinks afterwards.

Pre-Season Training

 All,

I hope everyone has had a good break from rugby over the past couple of months, because it all starts again soon!
Pre-season training is scheduled to start on Wednesday 8th July at 7pm. After the 8th it will be every Monday and Wednesday until the season starts. We are working on some pre-season matches at the end of August and start of September so I will keep you updated on that front.

Look forward to seeing you all on the 8th!

The Intangibles on tour in Bath

Millwall RFC’s Touch team, The Intangibles, took part in the RFU’s O2 Touch Tour in Bath*  last Saturday, the 20th June and performed creditably, reaching the semi-final only to lose to the eventual champions, the Maidenhead Mohawks. Most of the loss was officially attributed to Darryl, Dan and Ross forgetting about the ball and hunting for the Maidenhead.

As an added bonus, here’s a picture of Johnny Wilkinson drooling over our kit!

POOL GAMES
Millwall Intangibles 6 – 0 Royal Wootton Bassett RFC
Millwall Intangibles 6 – 1 ND Unit
Millwall Intangibles 6 – 1 Cheltenham RFC Tigers

LAST 16
Millwall Intangibles 8 – 1 Supermarine RFC

QUARTER FINAL
Millwall Intangibles 5 – 2 Chippenham RFC Cheetahs Black

SEMI-FINAL
Millwall Intangibles 0 – 6 Maidenhead Mohawks

Customer reviews:

Nigel Webb 5/5
Pros - I particularly enjoyed getting late tackled into Touch and conceding 6 tries in the semi-final. Also the girl wearing number 4 for Chippenham. Cor!
Cons – Fewer deckchairs than lifeboats on the Titanic and our driver to and from the venue insisted on playing Christmas songs.

Darryl Gera 5/5
Pros - The guy that got carded for full on rugby tackling Flex was one of the highlights. Also Scott and Nikki both wetting themselves over Johnny.
Cons - The lack of a TMO. Anybody that missed the tackle on Flex would have gone home disappointed. In lieu of a replay option, I think the ref should have made them do it again for the benefit of everyone. Ross not letting us play his Fantastic Mr Fox audio CD was a bit of a let down as well.

Ross Allison 5/5
Pros - Watching Scott and Nicola equally going weak at the knees when they saw Johnnie Wilkinson.
Cons - Regrettably drinking all that free luminous Lucozade. Not having my music appreciated on the drive down and stopping every 5 minutes for Darryl 'Geriatric' Gera to pee.
David Paton 5/5
Pros - Touch finally beginning to make sense!!  Watching Nicky break the Olympic 100m record the minute she saw Jonny getting on stage…
Cons - Losing to a team who cruelly used pace against a team requiring several bottles of WD-40...

Nicola Jones 5/5
Pros - Meeting my dream boat....and now have the perfect  bedside ‎pic to kiss before I sleep. Despite being the oldest and most broken team (Scott's ankle injury, Ross' shoulder dislocation, and Darryl's general geriatric condition) we still showed the kids how it's done!
Cons - Johnnie didn't propose and he didn't offer a one night stand :-( Losing....in it to win it.

Scott Vinnicombe 5/5
Pros - Captaining a side that despite its lack of youth and fitness made it to the semi finals and finished 3rd. Meeting Wilko.
Cons - Captaining a side that didn't make the finals/win the competition. Missing out on the stash all finalist received- everyone loves stash.

Randall Powell 5/5
Pros – It was nice to see a vets team make it to a semi-final.
Cons - The bar was too far away from the pitch.

Edna Schweizer 5/5
Pros - Making it all the way to the semi-final and that the bar was too far to walk for Randall
Cons - That I couldn't take any pictures of us in action.
