Millwall 17 Pegasus 13

MILLWALL'S march towards promotion has received a shot in the arm following back-to-back league wins over Pegasus RFC.

A close season fixture pile-up saw Millwall snatch a narrow 17-13 home victory over Pegasus on Saturday, coming hot on the heels of a 15-64 away win seven days earlier.

Now the Isle of Dogs club has secured second spot in Essex Division 1, Dave Roberts' side faces just one more league game against Old Cooperian's before a crucial play-off encounter.

Millwall's play-off will see the high-flying team come up against the runners-up from Eastern Counties Division 1 with an historic place in London Division 3 next season at stake.

Speaking after Millwall's slim home win over Pegasus, Roberts said: "It was a difficult game all round.

"It was way too stop-start and neither team really got the chance to play much running rugby.

"But we will enjoy our secured second place in the table and prepare to lay the right foundations againn against Old Cooperian's."

Meanwhile, Millwall's fourth team made it a triple win over Pegasus after triumphing 22-8 against the same club's rival BL Division 7 side in the Plate Semi-Final at Canvey Island on Saturday.

Be heard. Help us run your club.

Hello members

We are looking to try and involve more of you in running the club.

This is great for you if you were thinking of getting more involved next year on the main committee as it's a good way to learn more about what might be involved before you take the plunge and stand for election.

It's good for the club because we get more ideas, more skills and more people power to make things happen. Right now we are looking for people to join group(s) to brainstorm and make decisions about:

Group 1: The future of our club and ensuring we have adequate facilities
Group 2: The clubhouse, bar and events
Group 3: Communication

We are also interested to hear from you if you would like to get involved in team management or important match day things like first aid or transport.

Please drop us a line to volunteer@millwallrugby.com if you are willing to help.

Regards

Monday's EGM & Committee Change

Thank you to everyone who came along to Monday's EGM.

A motion to amend the constitution was carried unanimously (with a minor wording amendment from that published to allow for expansion to a 5th team etc).

The changes took effect immediately and we'll be updating the website shortly with the details of the positions that now sit on the Management Committee, the Men's Playing Committee, the Clubhouse Committee etc etc.

The new structure has been designed to be flexible from year to year and adapt to the time and skills of committee members. It is a good base for our club to develop now it has grown to 9 teams and potentially more to come.

We're very keen to open up the running of the club more to more people so do get in touch if you are interested in getting involved.

It's a good way to start your involvement if you are thinking of standing for an elected position at the Annual General Meeting in May and can only put you in good stead for being elected.

Festival of Rugby & Annual Millwall vs Rest of the World Game

The date you need in your diaries this year is Saturday 16th April 2011!

It's the day before the London Marathon, but it's also the date for Millwall's long-standing, traditional Festival of Rugby incorporating our well known Millwall vs The Rest of the World game.

The day will start on Mudchute Farm paddock around 11am continuing to about 6pm when the fun will move inside to the clubhouse until late at night.

There's be events for children, a barbeque, bar and loads of rugby to watch.  We're expecting a Venus game, and some youth games as well as the main Millwall vs The Rest of the World game. If you're not familiar with this annual institution, that's when all the English players in the club don Millwall Colours and all the other ruffians wear their national colours and go head to head in the Club Clash of the Year.

You're guaranteed a great day out, whether with your mates or your whole family.

Will you be there...?

Strengthened First Aid Support for all Millwall Teams

Congratulations and thanks to our eleven new Millwall Rugby first aiders who undertook a one day first aid course at the clubhouse on Sunday 6th March.

This RFU approved first aid course covered basic first aid and also a rugby-specific section. This specific section provided training on injury reporting, the management of concussion, spinal injuries and functional testing to determine the ability to "return to play".

The new Millwall first aiders will provide cover for the youth and adult teams.

The aim, following this training, is to have at least one qualified first aider at every game. This will also become an official position on the team sheets.

If you are a qualified first aider and would like to make yourself available to assist at games, please contact firstaid@millwallrugby.com. Alternatively - please email if you would like to be informed about any future first aid courses.

Millwall 86-3 Brightlingsea

MILLWALL went behind to an early penalty but then piled on a staggering 14 tries to no reply to see off Essex Division 1 rivals Brightlingsea.

Karl Mitchell ran in a hat trick of tries while stand-in captain Gareth Williams skippered the Isle of Dogs team for the second time this season.

Williams proved a lucky charm after having captained the team in Millwall's away victory over the same opposition earlier this term.

Coach Dave Roberts hailed his team's win, which keeps Millwall on track for promotion to London Division 3, but warned his side they face a "fierce battle" away at Clacton on Saturday (March 12 2011).>

"Brightlingsea got the first points through a penalty but then we simply took over," he said.

"It was a good result but one we didn't learn much from."

"We are looking forward to a fierce battle with Clacton this Saturday."
