See you there

Wiggy & Gareth x

Clubhouse Closed – Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd of December

Friday, December 21st – The Ferry House, after 6 pm
At a loose end with the clubhouse closed?  How about going to The Ferry House which is owned by one of our members?  The Ferry House has undergone some changes in the last few month and is looking really different. The décor is undergoing changes and it’s looking bright and airy.  Why not come down and see the changes for yourself? The kitchen is open and Abs wants to get feedback on his bar snacks/menu.  So come on down and try the food and say hi to Abs who is supposed to be working…

We are going to have great tunes for dancing and a buffet put on by Chef Shezza.  So come on down ready to hang out and have fun. As always, feel free to invite friends and other Millwall members down.

Millwall Rugby Club & Give it a Go

Give it a Go is a London-wide sports campaign that aims to support more people having a go at sport in their local area.

All 33 London boroughs will be organising free sports provision for people of all ages and abilities. This is a great opportunity for people to try a new sport or activity or rediscover one they once loved - all for free.

The Give It A Go campaign, hosted by Millwall Rugby club in association with PRO-ACTIVE London, is about creating opportunities for people to try something new and there’s nothing better than a great game of rugby!

You may be thinking to yourself, "I couldn’t play rugby", but you would be wrong! Millwall Rugby Club has something to suit everyone. We have men’s teams, a women’s team, and a youth division and also touch rugby.

The Give It A Go session will be run under the supervision of a fully accredited RFU coach and will be tons of fun. All you need is to turn up and be ready to enjoy!

If you’re interested, please contact Adrienne@millwallrugby.com to sign up.

Sponsor benefits and discounts for members

I’m very pleased to announce that both of our current sponsors renewed their sponsorship this season.

Byblos Harbour agreed to double their previous sponsorship fee and have moved on to the new, tiered sponsorship structure as a Bronze sponsor.

The Gaylord are maintaining the value of their previous sponsorship and have committed to a 2 year deal.

What does this mean for you?

Well, not only does the club receive valuable funding, but you can get 10% discount at Byblos Harbour and 12.5% at The Gaylord when you show your valid Millwall Rugby Club membership card.

So, please always show your card to ensure you get your discount, but also so the sponsors know you are from the club and can see the value of their sponsorship in driving custom and will want to sponsor us again next year.

Also, please tell me if you think you know of a potential sponsor. Maybe you have a friend who works in Marketing, or a family member who works for a local business. If you have any potential leads at all, please email me.

Other Discounts

Fenton Sports - 10% discount to all members (excluding sale items). Visit www.fentonsports.com

Decathlon - sign up for a Decathlon loyalty card and link it to Millwall Rugby Club to let the club earn points when you do.

Visit www.decathlon.co.uk for more details of the loyalty scheme. You can get your card at the nearest branch in Surrey Quays or, if you email me with the following details, I will go and get all cards made up in one go. I will need your name, address, email and date of birth. Obviously I will use your information only for this purpose and will delete it afterwards.

If you already have a Decathlon card, please email me for details on how to link it to the club.

Kind Regards

Sophie

Coaching - Rugby Ready

Rugby Ready @ Millwall Park,
Sunday, January 27, 2013, 10:30am until 3:00pm

Rugby is a complex game that requires physical and skills development and coaching is key to rugby player development. Everyone can benefit from coaching, no matter how experienced and skilled otherwise International teams and players like Tiger Woods wouldn't have coaches and Stuart Lancaster might be out of a job...

The club is committed to developing both coaches' ability to teach and players ability to develop and therefore we're going to soon start running coaching related activities.

Scott is our coaching officer and has organised the first of the on-pitch events for the year, the Rugby Ready course.

The IRB Rugby Ready programme aims to educate, aid and support players, coaches, match officials and Unions on the importance of sufficient preparation to avoid any injury during training and matches.

for anyone interested please go to the following page-
http://www.rfu.com/takingpart/coach/findacourse/londonsouth
the course is not yet being advertised, but you can still fill in your form and send it off.

on the page above click on the link for NON AWARD COURSE APPLICATION and follow instructions, course costs £18.50

Even if you don't think you have an interest in coaching, I'd encourage you to attend. Though Scott is our Youth Chair, the event is aimed at people who might want to coach at any level.

Please contact Scott for further information youthchair@millwallrugby.com

Watch out for it filling up early as the event is open to everyone not just Millwall RFC.

Floodlights Demo and Training next Monday - Dec 3rd, 7PM

Floodlights Demo and Training next Monday Dec 3rd, 7 PM

Next Monday brings us a big step forward in us having our own floodlights for training for the first time on Millwall Park as one of the providers is going to give us a demo of their lights.

We've also applied for planning permission and this demo will be a key part of showing the Council and local residents that there will be no inconvenience to them or local flora\fauna. In fact, lights and people training in the park will add to the safety of borough residents who wish to walk through the Park in the dark evenings. Amongst those who have accepted our invite are the Tower Hamlets planners, local residents, Island Sports Trust, East End Homes and local Councillor Gloria Thienel who has been working very hard on the club's behalf to make this a reality. Its also going in the local papers and George Green Parents communications.

Training next week will therefore be on Monday night.

Its very important that we have a good turn out at training for a couple of reasons:

  1. We need to show people that we have a healthy club that need lights to develop further
  2. The lights are expensive and we'll need to work hard to raise money. We need to ensure we're buying the best available for training and the majority agree.
  3. These lights are battery powered and rise to 3.5m. We need to be happy we can use them for line outs  kicking, that we can store and maintain them adequately.
Spread the word; if everyone asks two players you know to come down, we'll have a good turnout. We need at least 20 players, male and female. Sign up via the Facebook invite and send it to others

As we'll have guests, its quite a step forward for the club to have our first training and we're in December, we'll offer hot drinks with mince pies to everyone. The Irish contingent are definite that they will make the best hot whiskeys, will we have a challenge from anyone else?

Honorary Life Membership - Treatment of Partners

Honorary Life Membership - Treatment of Partners

The granting of Honorary Life membership is made to someone who has made an exceptional positive impact on the club. The club acknowledges that partners of these members will often, directly or indirectly, support the member in their efforts and the club therefore extends the benefits of life member to the partner.

A 'partner' in these circumstances will be someone who has a serious, established relationship with the honoured member such as being married, engaged, in a civil partnership, or in a long term relationship (greater than 2 years) and synonymous with the term "significant other". At the time of the granting of Honorary Life Membership, any partner meeting the criteria will be noted.  If later, a different relationship is established and a decision as to whether benefits are applicable,  a CMC member can decide the point for that event and the party can appeal this decision to CMC itself.

The benefits associated with the life member partner shall cease upon the termination of the relationship itself as defined either by formal legal separation/divorce of the parties or the agreed opinion of CMC in the event of no legal event. The life member partner will be informed of the decision by the Secretary or Chairman and their status will revert to member status with the consequent cessation of Honorary Life Member benefits.

This policy was agreed by the Club Management Committee (CMC) on November 12th and will apply from today, November 22, 2012.

Members invite to Committee meetings

Your Invite to the next Committee Meeting on November 12, 7pm

As you know, the club elects the Club Management Committee (CMC) to administer the club for you, the members, and make decisions for you to save everyone the effort of attending and voting. The next meeting is Monday 12 November at 7pm and I'm inviting a member to come.

Each month there is a CMC meeting and all members are free to attend the meeting, people just don't seem to be aware of this. You can then understand what is going on, add agenda items to be discussed, add your thoughts etc. There are certain restrictions which I'll go into below but I would like to invite and encourage you to attend at least one meeting so you can better understand what's happening. The committee work for the members not the other way around (that doesn't mean members do not also need to volunteer!).

In attending, you can understand some of the challenges the club faces, influence where the club is going and perhaps see where you can help. With some discretion outside the meeting, you can also discuss what goes on at CMC and make other members aware. Additionally, it's good for people to understand what the committee actually does so you can decide whether you'd like to stand for election. Being an officer has its challenges but there are also rewards.

Restrictions
So that we can run an orderly meeting and get through the items as quickly as possible, we restrict the meeting to CMC members plus roughly 2 invited members. Each CMC member is financially personally responsible for the club so voting is restricted to CMC members, invited members do not vote. We also sometimes discuss sensitive personal or financial issues so discretion of what is discussed is required. As with all CMC members, the Chairman and Secretary ask for agenda items and then schedule based on priority, there is no guarantee that a member's agenda item will be discussed but priority will be given to anyone attending.

How to Get Invited
Please email me if you'd like to attend, chairman@millwallrugby.com. The only reason anyone would be not be invited would be if we didn't have space or we needed to discuss something particularly sensitive and I'll let you know why.

Paul, our secretary looks after the meeting schedules and you can contact Paul, secretary@millwallrugby.com,  to get details of when the meetings are. They are roughly the 2nd Monday of each month.

Hope to see you at one meeting,

Tim

Why not come down and have a 'royal' night out and 'lose your head' this Wednesday.

Firstly we can commiserate/celebrate* the death of Jane Seymour in 1537 - (3rd Wife of Henry 8th) - However she was one of the few wives of Henry who didn't lose her head and she was the only one to receive a Queens funeral. You could also celebrate/comiserate* the birth of Princess Victoria Eugenia of Battenburg who was born on this day in 1887.

(*Delete as appropriate for Royalists/Republicans)

Unfortunately we don't have any Battenburg - but we do have beer and Shezza's back...... and he's cooking something Asian for din dins.

So get yourself down, get some drinks and have some of Shezza's excellent food.

P.S. Dont forget to buy your Raffle Tickets!!!

Poppy Appeal
This year Millwall is in the privileged position of having been asked to help with the Poppy Appeal.
The Appeal is the British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign and is most obvious to the public when lapel poppies are available from the last week of October until Remembrance Sunday, or 11 November, whichever is later in the calendar. The money raised during the Poppy Appeal goes towards helping all of the armed forces across the country and recognising the work they do on a daily basis.
This is an amazing opportunity for Millwall to get involved in supporting a really worthwhile cause and possibly recruiting some new members to the joys of Millwall Rugby Club.  We are in need of your help to get the national Poppy campaign off to a rousing start and the national Appeal starts on Wednesday 24th October.
Millwall (yes, that’s youJ) will be volunteering from Monday 29thOctober to Friday 9th November. We will be stationed at Canary Wharf from 5pm-7pm for the 2 weeks. If you can do the 2 hour shift, great!! If you can only do an hour, that’s great too!! There’s two shifts available- 5-6pm or 6-7pm, so take your pick.
Come wearing Millwall colours, raise some money for a great cause and there’s no reason why we can’t recruit some more members into the bargain!!!
Please contact Adrienne on:volunteer@millwallrugby.com to sign up or let anyone on the committee know you’re interested.

Merchandise Survey
We’re looking to sell some merchandise for supporters of Millwall Rugby Club that you can wear every day or on the side of the pitch while you’re cheering the teams on.  Please click on this link and let us know your interests.

RFU Grand Draw (Lights Fund)
Raffle Update:
Great News: We now have the actual raffle tickets in hand, So anyone who has pre-ordered - thank you very much for your support and Gareth will be getting them to you in the post asap.
We are also working on getting a webpage set up in the next few weeks where people can buy them on-line so watch out for that.

As a club we get to keep 90% of the sales. This year our main focus for the fundraising will be for floodlights. However as an added incentive - the Mens and Ladies teams have a target to sell, and if they reach their target they get to keep 10% of the sales value to spend on whatever they want - so the more the teams sell, the more they have to spend!!!

So players - Speak to Shaf or your respective team managers to find out more information about this incentive.

In the coming week we also hope to be able to get a web-page set up as well where you can buy tickets.
