Why not come down and have a 'royal' night out and 'lose your head' this Wednesday.

Firstly we can commiserate/celebrate* the death of Jane Seymour in 1537 - (3rd Wife of Henry 8th) - However she was one of the few wives of Henry who didn't lose her head and she was the only one to receive a Queens funeral. You could also celebrate/comiserate* the birth of Princess Victoria Eugenia of Battenburg who was born on this day in 1887.

(*Delete as appropriate for Royalists/Republicans)

Unfortunately we don't have any Battenburg - but we do have beer and Shezza's back...... and he's cooking something Asian for din dins.

So get yourself down, get some drinks and have some of Shezza's excellent food.

P.S. Dont forget to buy your Raffle Tickets!!!

Poppy Appeal
This year Millwall is in the privileged position of having been asked to help with the Poppy Appeal.
The Appeal is the British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign and is most obvious to the public when lapel poppies are available from the last week of October until Remembrance Sunday, or 11 November, whichever is later in the calendar. The money raised during the Poppy Appeal goes towards helping all of the armed forces across the country and recognising the work they do on a daily basis.
This is an amazing opportunity for Millwall to get involved in supporting a really worthwhile cause and possibly recruiting some new members to the joys of Millwall Rugby Club.  We are in need of your help to get the national Poppy campaign off to a rousing start and the national Appeal starts on Wednesday 24th October.
Millwall (yes, that’s youJ) will be volunteering from Monday 29thOctober to Friday 9th November. We will be stationed at Canary Wharf from 5pm-7pm for the 2 weeks. If you can do the 2 hour shift, great!! If you can only do an hour, that’s great too!! There’s two shifts available- 5-6pm or 6-7pm, so take your pick.
Come wearing Millwall colours, raise some money for a great cause and there’s no reason why we can’t recruit some more members into the bargain!!!
Please contact Adrienne on:volunteer@millwallrugby.com to sign up or let anyone on the committee know you’re interested.

Merchandise Survey
We’re looking to sell some merchandise for supporters of Millwall Rugby Club that you can wear every day or on the side of the pitch while you’re cheering the teams on.  Please click on this link and let us know your interests.

RFU Grand Draw (Lights Fund)
Raffle Update:
Great News: We now have the actual raffle tickets in hand, So anyone who has pre-ordered - thank you very much for your support and Gareth will be getting them to you in the post asap.
We are also working on getting a webpage set up in the next few weeks where people can buy them on-line so watch out for that.

As a club we get to keep 90% of the sales. This year our main focus for the fundraising will be for floodlights. However as an added incentive - the Mens and Ladies teams have a target to sell, and if they reach their target they get to keep 10% of the sales value to spend on whatever they want - so the more the teams sell, the more they have to spend!!!

So players - Speak to Shaf or your respective team managers to find out more information about this incentive.

In the coming week we also hope to be able to get a web-page set up as well where you can buy tickets.

Support the first team

On Saturday (27th Oct) the first are playing away at Campion and really need some help with transport please. We unfortunately do not have enough cars to get all the players there and are in need of anyone who is willing to help with lifts.

This game is going to be one of the firsts hardest games of the season (it's 1st vs 2nd place as it stands!) and it is vital that we do not lose the great momentum that we have built thus far. Any support that you are able to offer the firsts will be greatly appreciated and will go a very long way to their continued success...

If you're able to help please can you let me know (my contact details are shafikvisram@gmail.com or 07515419353)

Thanks

Week of 15/10/12 - Events & Announcements!

This week’s and upcoming events and a few announcements!

Note:  ***For those on Facebook – Please RSVP for Events when you have decided -  yes/maybe/no.  This helps me to make sure that I can plan for the right amount of numbers!  Also, please feel free to email me, socialsecretary@millwallrugby.com if you’re not on Facebook but plan on attending.  Always feel welcome to invite other Millwall members and friends to our events! ***Thank you!

Hargreaves Hump Day – Wednesday, 17th of October
Well as you may or may not know Wiggy and Gareth have swapped their clubhouse days - so Gareth will be running Wednesdays whilst Wiggy will runs Friday for the foreseeable future.

As Shez is on his holidays this week - Kirstie and Gareth will be creating a chilli and taco dish for your dining pleasure (Gareth will probably be acting in a mainly non-cooking role on this you may be pleased to hear!!).

Also, for this Wednesday we are remembering the following event which happened and drinking a few beers to their memory (although I don't think we will get through 135,000 gallons!!!)
  • Nine people were killed in the London Beer Flood. (1814) A 135,000-gallon (about 610,000-liter) vat of beer at the Meux and Company Brewery in London (UK) exploded, causing several other vats to explode in unison. More than 323,000 gallons (almost 1.5 million liters) of beer exploded into the street, killing nine people and destroying two homes and a neighbouring pub wall.
So join us down at the club and see who can wrench the remote off Gareth and change the channel from Clubland TV!!!

Bavarian Beerhouse – Oktoberfest Celebration – October 18th from 7 pm

Oktoberfest only comes around once a year so we should make the most of it. There is free entry on this night.  Please RSVP if you would like to attend and we can book the seats. I have booked for 25 and we currently have 20 people attending, so there are still 5 places!!!  I will contact the Beerhouse on Wednesday the 17th to modify the booking so please email me, socialsecretary@millwallrugby.com if you’ve changed your mind about being able to attend!  We can have multiple tabs going so it won't be a nightmare to split the bill at the end of the night.

We'll be going to the Old Street location with a booking at 7 pm. Please try to get there around 7 if you can please!

Fundraising
Have any good ideas that could be profitable for the club?  Maybe some fun party ideas?  Please email socialsecretary@millwallrugby.com with any ideas and they will be forwarded to the appropriate person.

RFU Grand Draw (Lights Fund)

The club desperately needs it's members to help raise funds for floodlights so that we can train this coming Winter. I'm sure you have all seen how quick the nights are drawing in now.

Each year, the RFU presents club with an amazing way to print cash. It's called the RFU Grand Draw and clubs get to keep 90% of all the revenue they get from ticket sales.  If everyone on our club mailing list bought just 2 x £5 books of tickets, then the club would make over £7,000!  Most importantly last year’s top prize was £10,000!

Gareth Hargreaves has kindly agreed to co-ordinate the admin for the draw this year with the help of the playing team members and the bar staff who will be selling the tickets.

We don't have the actual tickets in hand as yet (we are due to get these at the start of October). In the meantime, you can still buy 'tickets' so we can get the monies in asap. If you want to buy some tickets, please fill out the raffle pre-order logs along with giving your money (either speak to Shaf/Louise or the bar staff). Gareth will then post the actual tickets (retaining the stubs for entry in the draw) once we have them, so please ensure your address on the log is correct.

In the coming week we also hope to be able to get a web-page set up as well where you can buy tickets.

Volunteering
Interested in volunteering behind the bar?  Please email ryan@millwallrugby.com if you’d like to volunteer.  Those that are currently trained should have access to sign up but please feel free to contact him if you need access again.

Their clubhouse, changing rooms, and pitches are situated on the Vista Road Recreation Ground in Clacton-on-Sea, but are best reached off Valley Road, Clacton.

At this roundabout, take the second exit into St Johns Road – it is signposted ‘Holland’ and ‘Valley Farm’. Continue along the road, pass the Queens Head pub [on your left], through two sets of pedestrian lights, and on to a mini-roundabout, with the Ship pub immediately in front of you.  Bear left at the mini-roundabout into Valley Road.
