David Cameron and Lord Sebastian Coe visit Millwall Rugby Club

David Cameron and Lord Sebastian Coe visited Millwall Rugby Club today and joined in a Youth 'Taster Session' to announce that primary school sport is set to be transformed thanks to a £150m-a-year boost that will improve coaching.

The funding boost will allow for specialist sports coaches to provide tuition in primary schools, which will not only increase the standard of the sports taught, but will also increase participation in competitive sports outside of school activities and encourage children to remain active in sport through to adulthood.

David Cameron's Millwall Rugby Club
visit is broadcast live on BBC.
During the session, which was broadcast live on BBC One, children from local schools were given a taste of rugby by Millwall Rugby Club's Youth Coach Scott Vinnicombe, Randall Powell and the RFU's Neil Sweeney and Marcus Cattell. The Prime Minister himself and Lord Coe joined in a session, each heading up a team in a ball passing race, which the Prime Minister managed to win without slipping over on the very muddy pitch, much to the disappointment of the waiting camera crews.

The cold and hard rain didn't dampen the spirits of the children involved, or those of their parents watching from the sideline. In fact, most were enthused by the introduction to the sport and were keen to continue playing.

Thank you to all the club members who got up early to make this event happen and to the children and parents from the following schools for participating; Our Lady RC Primary School, St Edmund's Catholic Primary School, St Luke's Church of England Primary School and Cubitt Town Junior School.
