Touch Rugby this weekend (on Saturday, not Sunday)

Hello touch players

Don't forget we have the club's Open Day this Saturday (tomorrow) which kicks off at 2pm and finishes around 5pm.  We'd really like you all to be there.

To play, we need you to be there no later than 1.30pm.  This is so that we can organise everyone into teams that are evenly-matched and so that we can welcome and teach any new club visitors how to play.  We'll need you to help with that bit. Nigel tells me there is "silverware" in it!.... although the main aim is to make sure everyone has a good time.

Since we are having the tournament this Saturday, there will be NO O2Touch rugby this Sunday, but it will continue as normal the following Thursday and Sunday.

Regards
Andrew

Ten ways you can help the club this week

It's one week to go until the club's Open Day and you may be wondering how you can get involved as an existing club member.

Well you play, arguably, the most important role in the day because you'll be showing our visitors what's great about Millwall! And the reason we're trying to attract some new members is to make sure we have enough players to fill teams for all our games this season.

So here are some ways you can help your club:

1. Come and play in the touch rugby tournament. Be there by 1.30pm.

2. Join in one of the separate men's women's or youth intro sessions at 12 noon.

3. Flip burgers (Contact Kirsty)

4. Pour beer or buy someone new a pint.

5. Talk to visitors in the clubhouse (and persuade people to come along to training and maybe even sell some memberships)

And even if you can't be there in person:

6. Deliver some flyers this week

7. Share the Facebook event with your friends

8. Put a poster up at work or take a poster and flyers into a local shop.

9. Find somewhere on your company intranet to advertise the club.

10. Bring your marigolds along on Friday night for the final clubhouse clean-up party.

We do however still have availability for the £90 tickets to the England vs France game on the 15th August. If you wish to apply for these tickets please let me know at internationaltickets@millwallrugby.com by 2nd August.

As always please remember the tickets are for personal use, if you are caught selling them on to a ticket tout or on the internet the Club will get into  trouble and may well have our ticket allocation reduced or removed. If you find that you are unable to use them please do not post them on public sites like facebook or sell them to people you do not know. If required you are also able to return them to the Twickenham box office on game days.

Open Day Posters Ready

Thanks to everyone who has helped us deliver Open Day flyers!  There are about 3,000 left still to deliver, so please come down and pick some up from us if you can help.

We've now also made some A3 posters that you can take to your office, your library, your local shop or office.  Perhaps you can fix one to your gate/fence or put it in your window.

The posters can be collected from the bar.  You can even download and print one for your office here if you prefer. (It prints on either A3 or A4 printers).

New website for the club

A few of us are interested in creating a new website for the club.

This might be:

- a new site
- a changed design for the existing site
- a culling of content and reorganisation
- a website we start to pay for

Or something else.

If you're interested in helping to so this or participating in a focus group to decide in what content should be on there and updated please comment below.

New Coach Appointed

Millwallians,

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed a Head Coach for the coming season. His name is Matt Watts, and he will be running the pre-season training from Wednesday 22nd July.

So far we have had a good turnout at pre-season, but there are still a lot of players who haven't made it down, now we have a new coach running the rugby side of the sessions, as well as Andy running the fitness side, pre-season is shaping up to be excellent this year, so make sure you get down to the club as much as possible!

See you all soon,

Boris

Carrot Cars extends sponsorship to the 1st XV

I'm delighted to announce that Carrot Cars are renewing their sponsorship with Millwall Rugby Club’s 2nd XV and also increasing their support of the club by taking over sponsorship of the 1st XV too.

“Carrot Cars are really happy to have been able to, not only continue, but to extend their support of the club to include 1st XV sponsorship. We look forward to a successful year ahead for everyone involved at Millwall Rugby Club”

     - Adam Wiltsher, Manager, Carrot Cars.

This is the third season that Carrot Cars have supported the club and we are delighted that they are strengthening that relationship by sponsoring two of our teams this season. They have a strong community involvement and I know that members of the club will support Carrot Cars, as they supported us over the years.

Flyers advertising Open Day

Dear Members

As part of the club's player recruitment drive we've printed up some flyers for you to take to work/gym/shops or to deliver in your street.

Next time you are at the bar, please take a pile of 50 or so from the box and do your best to deliver them or leave them somewhere you think they will be found of interest.

Please don't leave this task to a small few on the committee as with a little help from everyone we can get the word out there about Millwall and our open day on 1st August.

Cheers
Andrew

Club meetings/help required this week

As we have quite a few meetings/help requests for this week, we thought it would be good to split these out from the weekly opening email.
Club Meetings/Attendance encouraged:
Tuesday - Club Management Committee (CMC) from 7.30pm
Every member is welcome to attend, please contact Karen beforehand on karen@millwallrugby.com. To find out more about these meetings, click HERE

Thursday - Open day organisation meeting from 8pm
This meeting is to discuss arrangements for our open day and who is doing what. Did you know we need circa 20-30 volunteers on the day to make this work seamlessly? Even if you can only spend an hour or two, then it would be appreciated and lighten the load. Let Jo know on ladieschair@millwallrugby.com if you are around to help.  To find out more information and to join the event, click HERE

Club events/help required:
Friday - Clubhouse cleanup evening #1 from 7pm
In preparation for our open day (1st Aug) we need to have a deep clean of the clubhouse. Did you know we need around 15 people to help in order to make this work? Even if you can only spend an hour or two, then it would be appreciated and lighten the load. The club bar will only be open for those who are helping on the night. Let Gareth know on gareth@millwallrugby.com if you are around to help. To find out more information and to join the event, click HERE

Until 1st Aug - Help with distributing open day flyers
We need help in getting the word out about our open day, and there are a number of ways this can be done.....

1) Handing out flyers
We've had lots of A5 flyers professionally printed advertising the event and we could really do with your help delivering a few in your street or building. Could you possibly take a pile to work to put by the till in your canteen, or on the tables, or at the reception in your gym? Perhaps there is a local shop who might be kind enough to take a pile from you.
The box of flyers is on the bar - just help yourself and let me know if we've run out!

Jo is also looking to organise a pub crawl (or 2 in the next few weeks) to get the word out - so email jo on ladieschair@millwallrugby.com if you are interested in visiting pubs.... ;-)

2) Share an e-copy
You can also download a PDF of the flyer here.  Some people have staff social sections of their intranet/work social network and perhaps you could post the flyer on there for us?

3) Share on Facebook
You can also help, by clicking here and looking for the SHARE link just under the bottom of the photo and sharing it with your friends.

4) Share on twitter
You can also ReTweet our Tweet here.

Club Management Committee (CMC) meeting this Tuesday

Each month, the club's management committee meets and our next meeting is this Tuesday 14th July. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and usually lasts for a maximum of 2 hours in our clubhouse.

What do we talk about?

We make decisions about the club's strategy, review the club's finances, and find solutions to issues that have arisen.  We also ratify any recommendations that the various club subcommittees make, approving any expenditure or contracts if the subcommittee hasn't had sufficient authority to make the decision alone.

Question: Can I go? -(Answer: Yes)

All current club members are always welcome to attend and contribute to the decisions.  All you have to do is contact Karen, our club secretary in advance of rocking up.  Email her at secretary@millwallrugby.com.  This is just so we can organise accordingly if we are expecting lots of people.

If you want to learn about the committee or stand next year, you are positively encouraged to attend at least one CMC meeting during the year.
