Just a quick note to let you know what’s in store for this week’s Hump day…..
Chef Shezza is thinking of either a pork roast or pork chops (with suitable side dishes) for din dins this week, so place your orders early.
Also, come down and support Venus for their last formal training session of the year (under floodlights) and celebrate with a few beers afterwards.
We are also celebrating the following Days in History:
- 1797 – Sir Ralph Abercromby attacks San Juan, Puerto Rico in what would be one of the largest invasions of the Spanish territories in America - presumably Mr Fitch becomes his friend and Abercromby & Fitch is formed* (probably not true).
- 1949 – At midnight 26 Irish counties officially leave the British Commonwealth. A 21-gun salute on O'Connell Bridge, Dublin, ushers in the Republic of Ireland – however Millwall Rugby Club seems to have been adopted as an enclave of the Republic of Ireland.
- 1986 – The Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years' War between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly ends – Probably because they forgot what they were actually fighting about?
Births:
- 1915 – Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Sri Lankan politician and the world's first female head of government (d. 2000) – one up on Maggie then.
- 1963 – Penny Vilagos, Canadian Synchronized Swimmer
- 1963 – Vicky Vilagos, Canadian Synchronized Swimmer
- 1978 – Jason White, Scottish rugby player
- 1983 – Andrea Marcato, Italian rugby player
See you down there
Gareth
P.S. We are looking for bar staff and BBQ staff for this Saturday’s Rest of the World day.
Please put your name forward if you can do a 2hr (or more) stint behind the bar or BBQ. Please email ryan@millwallrugby.com if you can help out for your club. Without volunteers, these events cannot run.
