Additional Level 2 Coaching places - 21 Feb

Level 2 is the entry level coaching course for Adults Rugby and we have been advised that there are 15 additional places on the course running on 21st Feb, 28th Feb and 6th March at Hackney Marshes (all days 9am – 5pm).

If you are interested, this is a great opportunity to do it locally as these courses can often be quite a distance outside London .

Coaches must attend the Rugby Ready and Scrum Factory CPD before the start date of the course but do not have to have attended the Level 1 course.

Are you unemployed and looking for a challenge?

At Millwall, we're proud to be hosting the School of Hard Knocks (SoHK), which is a social inclusion charity.  The programme is being televised by Sky and they're still looking for a few more people to take part.

Here's the deal:

  • You must be unemployed and looking for a job (so you're probably also registered unemployed at the job centre)
  • You'll get expert coaching
  • You'll get help finding work
  • You'll get lunch every day
  • You need to be able to start tomorrow (9.15am)
The programme runs for 8 weeks and you need to commit to the whole programme which is 2 days per week.

If you've been thinking about taking up rugby, but haven't come down to see us yet and you meet the criteria, why not give it a go?  Just email info@schoolofhardknocks.org.uk or phone 07791 180374 and come along at 9.15 tomorrow (Wed 10th Feb).  If you've got kit (boots, shorts/shirt) already you should bring it along.

And on 22nd March, we're going to be playing a game between Millwall and the SoHK participants. Rumour has it there will be a well known referee too!

(By the way, in case you were wondering, it's not specifically aimed at club members, but there is no reason why a club member who meets the criteria shouldn't take part.)

For a taster of what to expect, take a look at this video:

Training Cancelled 8th Feb & Clubhouse Closed

Due to the blustery weather and the difficulty putting our training lights up safely in the wind, we've decided to CANCEL tonight's mixed training session.

The clubhouse will also be closed for the lines to be cleaned, so enjoy a night off.... or hit the gym instead!

Changes to Monday & Wednesday Night Training

Wednesday nights are proving hugely popular, with numbers averaging at around 35-40. However this has meant it has been quite challenging designing coaching to suit the wide range of players attending, to keep it interesting and beneficial for everyone.

So with effect from tonight we are making some small changes to Monday & Wednesday nights. The changes mainly concern our Rugby Basics and Return to Rugby programmes.

Mondays: Adult Non-Contact Touch Rugby & Fitness
7.30pm until 9pm

(But please do your best to arrive from 7pm to help us get the lights out - don't leave it to your team mates)

  • This will be Non-Contact Touch Rugby Games for Fitness (for Men & Women of all abilities).
  • On Monday nights we will now run our Rugby Basics programme and complete beginners (men and women) are welcome to start on a Monday night.
  • All new players welcome.

Wednesdays: Adult Contact Rugby Training
7.30pm until 9pm

(But please do your best to arrive from 7pm to help us get the lights out - don't leave it to your team mates)

  • Contact Rugby Training
  • This will be run as separate sessions for Men & Women.
  • On Wednesday nights the men's section will continue to run our Return to Rugby Programme aimed at people who've played a little before and want to get back into the game. But if you're a complete beginner (and male) we recommend you start by coming just on Monday nights.
  • Women's Wednesday sessions are unchanged and will continue to welcome complete beginners.

The World's Best, Number One, Fabulous, Pre-6 Nations February Canary Wharf pub crawl Thirst Friday Extravaganza

Good morrow fellow citizens,

Now that you have all woken up to a hangover after a very wet weekend indeed, its time to get a cheeky pint or two in before the 6 nations kicks off. this friday we will be perusing the beverage options in a number of Canary Wharf drinking establishments in what can only be termed as: "The World's Best, Number One, Fabulous, Pre-6 Nations February Canary Wharf pub crawl Thirst Friday Extravaganza", hence the title of this piece.

The big plan is to get to the cat and canary by about 6 ish (or 4pm for those of us who really need to get the hell out of work) then proceed after one drink to the next drinking establishment of choice, this hten carries on until:
A) we lose everyone
B) we get somewhere where there is a "reason to stay"
C) its the only place open

...then we can all go to bed, have a lovely sleep and wake up refreshed to the wonderful saturday ahead.

Time: 18:00hrs

Place: Cat and canary, 25-27 Fishermans Walk, London E14 4DH

What to wear: Its a friday pub crawl, so make sure to wear your best dancing shoes and a flashy belt/shirt/dress/whatever and you too shall be the belle of the ball....

Come along for a drink this Friday https://www.facebook.com/events/1561936957461970/

Concussion Awareness and Management

Concussion is quite rightly a huge focus within rugby as it can have some serious consequences that are not always immediately apparent and we at Millwall are keen to promote awareness for player safety.

Its worth reminding ourselves about it and especially to be aware that repeated "small" incidents, which in themselves can be dangerous, can also lead to problems later.

http://www.englandrugby.com/my-rugby/players/player-health/concussion-headcase/overview/

While for most the symptoms usually last for a few days, they may last for a few weeks or in a small number of cases longer; when it may be called Post-concussion Syndrome. Research suggests that most adults recover fully by about 7 – 10 days after the initial injury.

Remember the 4 Rs

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms (PDF 859KB)
  • Remove the player from play (PDF 859KB)
  • Recover fully before returning to sport (PDF 859KB)
  • Return only after following a Graduated Return to Play (1.6MB)

Club/shelves clear out THIS WEDNESDAY - Weds 3rd Feb

Clubhouse shelving clear out:
Please be aware we will having our monthly clear out of shelves/coathooks etc, on Weds 3rd Feb - so please ensure any personal kit you have in the clubhouse is removed otherwise it will be disposed of.

We have a regular clear out on the first Wednesday of each month (as notified on the posters around the clubhouse)

This is a long-standing policy we have had in place and is especially important in the run up to 6 nations. We have limited storage space and priority must be given to club equipment.
