Club Captain Duties

As you'll be aware, the role of Club Captain is currently unfilled and the duties are currently being carried out by other members of the club committee. The committee met last Wednesday and discussed the best way to fill the role.

In view of the importance of the club captain role, and in the interests of openness and transparency it was decided that an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) would be held to elect a new Club Captain for the remainder of the season. It is intended to hold this meeting at the earliest possible opportunity in January. A notice to this effect will be issued by the Club Secretary, along with the nomination process in due course.

Anyone interested in the role, or with any questions about what's involved should get in touch with me as soon as possible to express their interest.

To give the committee much needed assistance covering the duties, Randall Powell has kindly agreed to step-in. At the committee meeting this week, Randall was appointed Interim Club Captain, responsible for carrying out the club captain's duties, until a Club Captain is formally elected at the EGM to be arranged. Randall will chair and vote on the weekly selection committee. In addition he will attend full committee and Excom meetings, albeit in a non-voting capacity, pending formal election of a new Club Captain.

We're delighted Randall has agreed to help out in this way, and hope you'll give him every assistance in running the playing side of the club.

No-pay, No play from 20th November - "Time's up" for Non-Members

Millwall Membership runs from May to the following May, designed to coincide with the dates of our Annual General Meetings (AGMs). As such all memberships became due for renewal six months ago.

In the interests of fairness to all the people who've now paid their membership for this season, if you are not a fully-paid up member, you will not be eligible for team selection from Saturday 20th November onwards.

The only exception to this will be for new playing members this season who are still taking advantage of our "4 match trial period".

If you're a continuing playing member, (that is, you played at least one game for Millwall or Venus Rugby last season), you need to make sure that you've paid the appropriate annual fee OR that you've been paying £20 a month continuously since May this year. Only new playing members this season are eligible to join the Monthly Regular Player Scheme (£20/month) part-way through the membership year. If you think you've missed any payments or there is any reason why you cannot afford to pay your membership, please contact Edna, our Treasurer at membership@millwallrugby.com.

If you were a social member last year, remember we operate a members-only bar so please renew your social membership now. We've re-activated the door system and you'll need a current membership card to open it. If you're not a paid-up member then another member must sign you in when you visit. If you're a regular face and we think you really should have paid by now, you might even have to "ring the bell" above the bar!

So come on ladies and gentlemen, senior and junior... support your club, make your committee's lives easier and pay your membership now.

Clubhouse Management

A few weeks ago, we wrote to club members inviting proposals from people interested in taking on the role of Clubhouse Manager. This very important role covers all aspects of running the clubhouse bar and facilities.

To date, we've received one formal proposal and this is currently being discussed by the club committee.

In the interests of openness, transparency and general good order we would like to invite anyone else in the club with an interest in the role to get in touch as soon as possible before a final decision is reached. It is expected that the committee will make a formal decision at the next meeting. The clubhouse is a major asset and the way we run it has an impact on you, our members. So in the best interests of the club, it is only right that we go through proper and due process to ensure that everyone interested in the role has had ample opportunity to come forward.

Until this final decision is made, Dawn Doherty has kindly agreed to give her time on a voluntary basis and step up to the challenge of managing the clubhouse operation. At yesterday's committee meeting, she was appointed "Interim" Clubhouse Manager until a formal decision can be made by the committee. She'll be supported by Kev, Rick and other willing volunteers. So a big thank you to Dawn "& Co". for agreeing to do this for us.

Remember, if you are interested in the Clubhouse Management role, please contact me (chairman@millwallrugby.com) before 30th November.

First Team Manager

Some of you may be aware that Carl Burnett has recently decided to stand down as First Team Manager.

I would like to thank Carl for the time and efforts he's put into the role this season. Carl is a valued member of the club and I'm sure we'll still see plenty of him down at the clubhouse and on the pitch.

Following a meeting of the club committee tonight, it was agreed to appoint Harland Sinclair (Cheese) as First Team Manager and to co-opt him onto the club committee. We're delighted to welcome him to the committee and we know he will bring plenty of experience to the role, having been First Team Manager a few years ago.  You can contact cheese at firstteammanager@millwallrugby.com.

A few England v Australia tickets - up for grabs

Following last Saturday's international ticket draw, after everyone who won has bought what they want to buy, we've still got a very limited number of tickets left for next week's England v Australia game at Twickenham.

These highly sought-after tickets are available on a first-come first served basis by emailing secretary@millwallrugby.com.

Please act quickly if you are interested, because we can't afford to waste any tickets as the club has already had to pay for them.

Playing Doctors & Nurses

We're looking to boost first aid support across all teams at Millwall Rugby Club.
We are looking for volunteers to attend a one-day rugby-specific, first-aid course and then provide first-aid assistance when required. Our aim is to have at least one qualified first aider at every game.

Ideally we would like a mix of people (players and supporters) across all of the teams. Team managers and coaches will also all require first aid training.

Whether or not there is a charge for this course is still to be determined.

If you are interested in getting involved, or if you are already qualified and would be willing to volunteer, please contact firstaid@millwallrugby.com to express your interest.

Once we have compiled a list of interested people we will confirm additional details and arrange a date for this training to take place (this is likely to be a Sunday at the clubhouse).
