Improve Your Playing - Coaching Open Night

What do you need to do to be a Better Rugby Player?

Next Tuesday, we'll have an Open Evening which is all about how people can be better rugby players.

There are obviously several ways that this can happen and all of them involve you doing something e.g. getting fitter, understanding a key aspect of the game, improving a personal skill etc. Some of this you can recognise yourself and some can be pointed out by someone e.g. a fellow player or someone dedicated to do this - a coach

The night is billed as a coaching Open night but its about more than the club developing coaches, its about players understanding what it is to play rugby and how you can get better. We'll use some video footage of Millwall games to generate some thoughts and  the night will have the Essex Coaching Co-ordinator

Coaching Open Night

Training & Matches this week

Guys,

Firstly a well done to the 1st team against Stanford Le Hope and an even bigger well done to the Llamas for their cup win against Writtle.

That said, it was not the best feeling to have to cancel the 3rd team fixture due to a lack of numbers so please, let's remedy that this weekend with 3 league fixtures to be played.

The 1st team travel to Pegasus, the 2nd team travel to Upminster, whilst the 3rd team have a big fixture against London Lithuanians at home.  Let's have three strong squads for the challenge ahead and let selection and the team managers know ASAP that you are available.

Training this week is Wednesday only, I ask for one night a week so please don't let your teammates down by not attending.

We're winning because we're training...

See you Wednesday

If you have been successful please ensure you pay promptly and that your membership is fully up to date, as otherwise we will have to re-allocate the tickets to those on the waiting list.

Any questions, please let me know.

The RFU Injured Players Foundation is the official charity of England Rugby. With your backing, they look after seriously injured players for life and help prevent future injuries through research and education (and they have provided us with medical kits in the past for free).

Places are only £5 per person (with a max of 8 people per team*)

This isn't just any calendar - this is the 2014 Millwall 'tastefully nude' calendar!!!

Well its finally arrived, the 2014 Millwall Calendar has been produced. Forget the M&S or John Lewis Xmas adverts.....This is what everyone has been waiting for.

We can't put any of the pictures up here as it would probably send webpage/spam-blockers into overdrive, but rest assured they are tasteful and artistic.

It's the perfect gift for that friend/enemy/in-law who has everything....it contains over 60 pictures in glorious technicolour and arty black and white featuring some of your favourite stars of the rugby club.

Get your orders in early to ensure to have the best chance of having them under the tree on Xmas day for that special loved/loathed one.

We have ordered 100 calendars - so pre-order now to avoid disappointment and we will hand out/post calendars when we receive them (due w/c 2nd Dec).

We have priced this calendar at £8 each, which I am sure you will all agree is a bargain and  Even the 'models' have foregone their usual appearance fee in order to raise more money for the club.

You can either pay via paypal (button below) or via cash/card over the bar in the clubhouse.

Please remember, if you want your calendar(s) posted, remember to state the address(es) you want them posted to.

If you have any queries, please speak to Gareth or email gareth@millwallrugby.com

Six Nations - England Away Tickets

The RFU has now informed the club of their allocation of tickets to the away England internationals

Below are the details of the games and how to apply for tickets.

    - England v France, Saturday the 1st Feb 2014 (12 at £38)
    - England v Scotland, Saturday the 8th Feb 2014 (8 at £60)
    - England v Italy, Saturday the 15th Mar 2014 (8 at £15)

As per the normal process, to apply for tickets please email the Club on internationaltickets@millwallrugby.com with the following information:

    - Which game you would like to go to?
    - How many tickets you would like? (Please note that there is a limit of 2 tickets per member, if the game is oversubscribed but if you want more let us know anyway.)

In addition to the cost of the ticket the Club will be charging an admin fee of £5 per tickets, payable at the time of purchase.

Remember these tickets can not be bought by the general public and fetch a premium of £50+ if we sold them directly to approved hospitality providers, so make sure you take advantage of this great opportunity and privilege of being a member of the Club.

The important dates:

15th of November - Application period will closes.
17th of November - You will have been notified of whether you’ve been successful.
20th of November - Payment in full must have been received, this is to allow us time to sell them to an approved hospitality vendor or to return any unsold tickets to the RFU

If we are over subscribed preference will be given to those who volunteer for the Club.
To get access to these tickets, you first need to make sure your club membership is paid and up to date. We are only allowed to let you purchase tickets if you have been a member for at least 2 weeks prior to purchase.

Lastly remember the tickets are for personal use, if you are caught selling them on to a ticket tout or on the internet the Club will get in trouble and may well have our ticket allocation reduced or removed.

Greetings Millwallians,

After a relatively quiet November so far on the playing side we are now starting to get into business time again. This weekend the seconds are playing against Writtle in the JAT cup on Millwall Park and we are also looking at picking up a friendly for a Millwall XV if there is enough interest in a game.

Email selection@millwallrugby.com to let us know your availability for the coming weekend for the Seconds or for a club friendly against as yet unconfirmed opposition.

Let's have a big turnout at training tomorrow too, see everyone there.

Coaching Courses and Coaching In Millwall

Deadline extended..

We are running coaching courses....

Are you interested in knowing more about coaching, how it can improve your game as a player? Are you interested in passing on your knowledge to others and seeing how your skills and experience can improve other's performance? Do you think tactics are important in rugby?

Then we have the solution for you as we're going to run Rugby Ready and Level 1 courses

Rugby Ready  and Level 1 Courses in November and December
If you are interested, email ccc@millwallrugby.com or developmentofficer@millwallrugby.com and tell us
1. Which course you are interested in
2. If Rugby Ready, are there dates that you cannot do? Can you do an evening or a Sunday?

The deadline for responding for courses in November\December is Wednesday November 20th.

Background, RFU Structure
Rugby is a complex game that requires physical and skills development and coaching is key to rugby player development. The RFU have a well developed coaching structure which takes people from the very basics and brings them through to highest levels with core course to Level 4 supplemented by CPD modules such as Back Play from Set Pieces, Scrum Factory, Maul and Ruck etc. See below. Attending a coaching course is well recommended to improve your own playing ability even if you don't want to coach just yet

Rugby Ready -3 hours from £15
The IRB Rugby Ready programme is the introduction to coaching. The course lasts for approximately three hours and is practical-based. There is no formal assessment, and the course is delivered by an accredited coach educator. Many people from Millwall have done this course and it can help your playing game. We can do it at Millwall Park under Floodlights on a Tuesday evening or on a Sunday morning before any Venus games and it will cost a maximum of £15.

Level 1 - 2.5 days - from £35/£75
Once you have your Rugby Ready done, you can progress to Level 1 which teaches how to safely organise rugby activities and teach handling skills, tackling, contact and softer skills such as player development and coaching practise. Level 1 is aimed at Youth rugby, there is a Level 2 which people can do directly but we as a club will support Level 1 at this stage. The course costs £75 if you book directly but, subject to numbers and confirmation from the Club Management Committee, the club will look to part fund this so it costs you £35 if you again commit to using your earned skills for a minimum of 6 coaching sessions. If we get enough numbers from Millwall, we will run the course at Hackney Marshes, the nearest approved RFU coaching centre. Otherwise, you'd need to wait to June or travel much further e.g. WILTSHIRE

Club Funding for Courses
We want to invest in you as coaches and would like to see more people participating in coaching as it builds the club and improves players. We have established coaches who lead sessions who will be more than happy to let you learn the ropes and run some of the sessions appropriate to your level. Therefore the club will partly fund the course if you can then commit to formally assisting or leading 6 coaching sessions, some of which may be with beginnners, youths, women etc. If you'd prefer not to do this, you're welcome to pay the normal price subject to places being available/

Millwall Coaching Coordinators
The club coaching coordinators are there to help build and maintain a coaching structure at Millwall and help members particpate in courses.
1. Tim McDonagh - developmentofficer@millwallrugby.com, 07795 436715
2. Scott Vinnicombe - scott@millwallrugby.com
We can both be reached by emailing ccc@millwallrugby.com

Booking Courses Independently
If you cannot do the times we arrange through the club, you can still book the courses directly through the RFU Web site
