4TH DEC THIRST THURSDAY

The nights are drawing in now and in the immortal words of that guy off game of thrones "winter's comin'..." so what better way to prepare than surround yourself by cozy surroundings and good company.....

Unfortunately we can only offer the former, good company will have to be substituted for those stalwarts of hard hitting conversation that are the members of Millwall Rugby Club.

Expect such topics as:
- Since the creation of the bakewell tart bomb and the cockney bomb, is it morally correct to invent a haggis bomb for our cousins north of the border?
- are they yellow moustaches or some sort of marital aid?
- will anyone ever try jellied eels?
- who is up for going to see the darts?

...and many more discerning questions relevant to life in the urban jungle in 2014.

All this and more, (possibly including red shoes), at.....

Time to come back to training?

The RFU coach visited again tonight to run a men's training session on the park and we had reasonably good numbers again, which was great.  But we'd still like to have more of you out there training each Monday and Wednesday, as Cookie has said in his weekly updates.

For me tonight, it was a return to training after a bit of a break (=understatement of the year).

The RFU coaches are running our men's training on Wednesdays at the moment we are really lucky that they are able to do this for us (at no cost to the club).  On Mondays we are still training but running it ourselves.

As they say a club that trains together plays well together and we are keen to see more Llamas and third team players turning up to training too.  It's good for the club and good for you too, and we should start to see the benefits on the pitch on Saturdays.

The RFU coach has asked me to reiterate to players, that training is not just for first team squad and they are able to adjust the content of the sessions to suit the people who turn up, so that means if we have a good split of first and second/third team players, they will split the activity to make it appropriate to all.  Everyone will be welcomed.

So there really is no reason not come back to training...  The club needs you!

If not now, when?... will you be there next Wednesday?

Touch Rugby Tournament Tomorrow (Sun 16th Nov)

Just a note to let you know that we now have enough people registered to play tomorrow, so it will definitely be happening.  We would still like more of you to register, and indeed we definitely need some more women to register so we can play proper mixed touch rugby.

Please register here.

Just a few points of admin:

  1. No metal studs allowed - you need plastic studded/bladed football- or rugby- or touch-boots. If you don't have boots, trainers are fine, but be aware the ground is muddy and slippery.
  2. Bring water to drink. Bring a plastic bin bag to keep your bag dry if it rains (rain will not stop play!).  Bring a warm, dry change of clothes for afterwards in case you get muddy.
  3. It's competitive but its about having fun and Flex reserve's the right to mix up the teams a bit to make sure this happens.
  4. If you haven't registered please do so. It really helps us plan the teams. Please register here.
  5. Registered players need to arrive at 12.30pm so we can warm up and issue instructions for a prompt 1pm start.  The tournament will end at 3pm, so that the quiz can begin at 3.15/3.30pm for a 4pm latest start.
  6. If you don't register it's OK to come along still, but please arrive a little earlier at 12.15 to allow us to adjust the teams to accommodate.
  7. If you haven't ever played touch rugby before, please arrive at 12.15pm and tell us you're new and that you need to be taught how to play.  (It will be much harder to give you proper tuition if you arrive after 12.30pm).
  8. It's free of charge to play this week
  9. Bring £2 to enter the puz quiz afterwards
  10. Have fun.
If you have any questions, contact touch@millwallrugby.com or phone Flex on 07734 103610.

Social Events coming up in the next few weeks

We have a number of social events coming up in the next few weeks - so make sure you get involved and join the invites so we can gauge numbers.

1) Thurs 6th November - 'NovemberFest' (Thirst Thursday) from 6pm onwards
Feel like you missed out on Oktoberfest? Maybe you didn't miss out this year but are pining for the slap of leather on skin already? Do you just love Oompah music and slurring your way through German party hits? Never fear, this Thursday will bring back that Bavarian Extravaganza Experience for your November Thirst Thursday delight.

There will be plenty of beer and a moderate helping of horrible bush root flavoured schnapps at Katzenjammers near London Bridge. http://www.katzenjammers.co.uk/

We will have a table sorted out (maybe) and there will be a fantastic atmosphere (we hope) as well as someone in leather shorts (more likely) and even a dirndl or two (even more probable).

Ed should be able to cross more of those disclaimers off the list as we get closer to the day. Join the facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/618110344967035/

2) Saturday 15th November - Cockney Knees up dinner
Alright me old china? Hungry for some Vicar or Slash? It’s a good thing that we’re going to have a good ol’ fashioned Cockney Knees Up dinner! Pre-order your pie and mash plus liquor.
Is that not enough fun for you? Well, come all dressed up East London style. Dress up as someone fictional, factual or well…traditional East London style.

The availability of the delights on offer will be by pre-order only (see menu below)
Please send your order to: socialsecretary@millwallrugby.com listing the following.
1. Full name
2. Preferred email address for contact (if different from the one you use)
3. Your food order
4. Total price to pay

The plan is to get it delivered on Sat 15th but the pie man needs the order during the week to make sure he can deliver it. Join the facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/766995990014636/

 3) Sat 16th Nov -Touch & "Pass" Touch Rugby Tournament and Quiz
