Physio Sessions for Players £5 - Monday Oct 5th

Monday October 5th

Clubhouse 7.30-9pm

£5/£2.50 Student\Unwaged

We'll restart the monthly Physio clinics next Monday, October 5th and they will run on the first Monday of each month.

The club wants to keep as many players on the pitch as possible and give you maximum return for your membership so we'll subsidise the sessions and it will only cost £5 for members or £2.50 if you are a student or unwaged.

If you've picked up a knock in a game or want an opinion on a longer term injury niggle, come down and meet Patrick Carroll, our new Physio.

How to Book

The sessions will be first come, first served with priority given to people who book by emailing physio@millwallrugby.com.

You can also come in on the night subject to demand.

Millwall RFC Thirst Thursday: BIERFEST ON MILLWALL PARK

Last year seems to only have been yesterday as once again we are reminded to drink unfeasibly large glasses of beer by the erection of a huge Teepee on Millwall Park.

Join us again as we partake in oompah music, bier and sausages at the Oktoberfest on Millwall Park. The organisers have agreed to accommodate us and are willing for us to advertise in the beer hall itself.

This is a prime opportunity for us to gain a local presence and get some free advertising whilst looking to recruit to help our team numbers for both men and ladies teams. Therefore it would be great if as many people can make this (ideally in Millwall attire/colours).

Notes:

- Even though das schnorkel is german we can promise it wont be making an appearance, so Boris all is safe for you to attend.
- Millwall colours can be set off beautifully by Bierfest themed clothing so don't be afraid to come along dressed properly.

Please remember to accept and share/invite friends to the event so we get as many people down as possible.

WHEN? Thursday the 1st of October from 18:00 to 21:00
WHERE? The massive blue and yellow marquee on Millwall Park

see you there.......

Turn your pictures into free beer!

Turn your photos into free beer!

How? All you need to do, is take a picture or video clip and share it publicly with the world on either Instagram or Twitter and remember to tag them with the hashtag #millwallrugby. Don't forget, your Twitter or Instagram account must be public/unprotected for this to work and you to win.

It could be a picture of one of our matches, or it could be a shot of a training session, or a touch rugby game. It could even be a fun picture of you and your friends watching a RWC game in our clubhouse. So long as you post it right away or within 24 hours of being taken.

Anything related to club activities.... and decent(!)... counts.

We will use your pictures on our website, social media and in our weekly match reports in the papers to help promote the club and recruit new members.

Once a week or thereabouts, we'll pick a photo or video of the week and put it on our website with your name. Just show the winning entry on your phone at the bar within two weeks of winning and you'll get one free drink. (Any beer, bottle, glass of wine, single spirit or soft drink).

We're going to run this until further notice to the contrary!

Former Millwall Member Tan Parsons stars in the Beer World Cup pool stages

A few weeks ago, Millwall Rugby Club played host to former Millwall member, Tan Parsons and his colleagues getting quietly sozzled in the pool stages of the Beer World Cup... on location in our clubhouse!

Return to Rugby & Rugby Basics Starts Tonight

Our first session of the new Return to Rugby programme starts this evening. Please arrive from 7pm for a 7.30pm start and ask for the Return to Rugby Programme when you get here.  Complete beginners are welcome as well as people who know how to play already.

You'll find us alongside Island Gardens DLR station just 8 mins from Canary Wharf or 5 mins from Greenwich.

We recommend you bring a bottle of water and wear studded football/rugby boots (plastic or metal if the ground is soft). If you don't have these, then trainers are fine.  If you have a gumshield bring it along, but if you don't have one, don't worry as you probably won't need one for a few weeks.

It might be rainy or soft underfoot tonight, so perhaps bring a change of clothes for afterwards.

Our clubhouse bar area will be open for changing before and afterwards as well as a beer after the session. Our shower facilities are quite limited however - there's just one small shower cubicle next to our loos.

About the programme

Return to Rugby is a new national programme that will run for at least 12 weeks over the World Cup period and is aimed at bringing people back into the game who haven't played for a long time.

At Millwall we started our Rugby Basics programme last year, with similar aims. But we are welcoming both men & women who are completely new to the game. This season we are going to run both programmes together, alongside our main training session, but tailor the activities specially for beginner/returner needs in mind.

Request for help this Saturday - between 1pm and 5pm

Hi all,

This Saturday our long standing club supporters - Friends of island Gardens - are celebrating 120 years of Island Gardens park being open (in Island Gardens park funnily enough).

We have been asked if we would like to have a spot to showcase our club in the run up to the rugby world cup.

The majority of the people attending this event will be parents and children so this is a great opportunity to recruit some new players into our youth section as well as introduce people to their local club.

We have a set of inflatable rugby posts donated by Guinness so we will be encouraging people to try out their conversion skills - who knows, we could find the next Leigh Halfpenny!!

The event runs from 1pm to 5pm so we're looking for a few volunteers to give an hour or two of their time to hand out flyers, talk to potential new members, encourage the children and welcome people to rugby.

If you can spare any time this Saturday to advertise the club please email gareth@millwallrugby.com by close of play Thursday 10th September letting him know what time you can spare.

He will then let you know on Friday if we have enough people to run this event as we need at least 5 or 6 (and he promises there will be a beer or 2 in it for you) ;-)

Kind regards,

Scott Vinnicombe
Youth Chairman
Millwall Rugby Club

Kit, Shirts & Merchandise Policy

The club management committee has decided it is a good idea for the club to have a policy around the production of kit, shirts and merchandise that:
  • bears a logo of the club (main, youth or venus)
  • OR is produced in red/white/black for the club
  • OR is to be paid for in part or full by the club
The short version is the CMC wants to pre-approve anything falling into the categories above.

We're hoping to have a new set of club merchandise and kit for you to purchase in the coming weeks.

You can find the new policy stored for reference on the main page of the club section of our website.

Games this weekend 12/09/2015

Afternoon Millwallians,

We have two games this weekend. The 1st XV play their first competitive fixture vs Dagenham in the first round of the National Junior Vase at home on Millwall Park, k/o 2pm, with a meet time of 12.30. The 2nd XV (Llamas) will play a friendly vs Old Streetonians 2nd XV at Hackney Marshes k/o 3pm, with a meet time of 1:30pm, minibus will be provided to and from Hackney.

Please email selection@millwallrugby.com with your availability by 7pm on Wednesday as selection for the 1st XV will be made after training on Wednesday. The 2nd XV game is a squad match so those not selected for the 1st XV will be able to get a run out with the 2nds.

See you all at training on Wednesday.

Cheers

Boris
